Roles & Functions of DIET
Roles
- DIET would continue to be the nodal institution at the district level to conduct pre-service and in-service training for elementary and secondary school teachers.
- It would arrange need-based training for teachers of the district.
- DIET would organize and support professional and leadership development programmes for Head Teachers, senior teachers and School Management Committees on a continued basis.
- It would serve as an Education Resource Centre for the district in conjunction with BITEs, BRCs, CRCs, etc.
- It would undertake action research programmes for teachers, teacher trainees and teacher-educators.
- DIET would develop district academic plans and monitor the quality of schools and teaching.
- It would design interventions for direct support to schools and work with special groups in the district.
- DIET would address quality issues in elementary and secondary education of the district.
Functions
- Training and orientation of elementary and secondary school teachers (both pre-service and in-service) on various school subjects.
- Orientation of Heads of School Complexes on new trends in education.
- Academic and resource support to the elementary and secondary education systems of the district.
- To undertake action research to deal with specific academic problems of the district in achieving educational objectives.
- To familiarize stakeholders of school education with new trends and approaches in education.
- To organize seminars and workshops on various educational topics to enhance the abilities of teachers and teacher-educators.
- Extension activities and interaction with the field.
- To act as a resource and learning centre for teachers and trainees.
- Development of locally relevant materials such as teaching aids and evaluation tools.
- To serve as an evaluation centre for elementary and secondary school programmes.
